From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The 21-year-old face of Burberry, who this week makes her TV acting debut in Timeless, part of Sky Arts’ Playhouse Presents series, told The Guardian that she fantasises about delivering a hook to a member of the paparazzi.
“I'd love to, I really would, I'd be so happy, I dream about it at night,” she said.
And despite her penchant for posting numerous images of herself cross-eyed and gurning on social media, Delevingne said she finds the intrusion into her private life “kind of scary”.
“It's a different kind of fandom now, it's like they're obsessed. They find one person they obsess over and they follow them – they have to know everything about their lives, because you have that access, Instagram and Twitter, you can literally be a part of their lives.
“So they get one person and that's it. It's really changed things. It's kind of scary really.”
Delevingne, who stars alongside Sylvia Syms, a film veteran of more than 50 years, in Timeless, said that she only took up modelling so that she could pay for drama school - and she is keen to prove herself as an actress.
“I knew I was going to have to fight really hard to do it, because I had to prove myself. Most people have that stigma: she's a model, can't act, we don't want you in our movie.”
But it's not the end of the world if her latest venture doesn’t work out Delevingne also has plans to pursue a career as a pop star. Having previously worked with music mogul Simon Fuller, she said: “If I've made a fair bit of money or whatever, I can stop and I'll do music. I will cut six months out of the year to make an album.”
