Actor Nicholas Brendon, best known for playing Xander Harris on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, has been arrested in upstate New York for allegedly choking his girlfriend in a hotel room.

Brendon has been charged with robbery, criminal mischief and obstruction of breathing, according to police.

The woman, who has not been named, told officers she had gone to the hotel to meet Brendon in order to return some property to him, but when she attempted to leave he became violent, taking her car keys off her and throwing her phone into the street when she tried to call for help.

“It sounds like it went downhill from there,” said police Lt Bob Jillson. “He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and started choking her.”

Brendon left the hotel before police could arrive, but was located by police walking down a nearby street. Jillson said alcohol was involved, but did not know if Brendon was intoxicated.

It is the fourth time he has been arrested this year, with charges ranging from public intoxication to property damage.

In August, he appeared on Dr Phil as part of a highly-publicised rehabilitation special, but walked off set during filming.

The episode aired regardless, with Brendon later saying he wasn’t comfortable with airing “the darkest parts of myself on National TV”.
