Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have been immortalised – as code names for Class A drugs.

The pop superstars probably wouldn’t appreciate the homage by traffickers allegedly running a drug ring from New York.

Wiretaps obtained in the course of a police investigation revealed that powder cocaine was referred to as “Christina Aguilera” while crack was “Britney".

It was part of an extensive code that police claim defendants used to obscure their criminal activities.

Eric Schneiderman, the Attorney General of New York State, said 25 people had been charged with 340 counts of criminal offences in connection with drug trafficking.

The ring allegedly distributed heroin, cocaine and illegal prescription medications, including Xanax and morphine, between New York City, the Capital Region, and several other counties.

Britney and Christina are not the first celebrities to find themselves worked into codes around the world.

The poker hand of an ace and king is named “Anna Kournikova” after the retired female tennis player because it “never wins” tournaments.

Britney also appears in cockney rhyming slang, where “Spears” equals “beers”.

Brad Pitt (s**t) also appears in the dialect, along with Tom Cruise (booze).
