Brad Pitt has said he will not appear at the premiere of his new film as he does not want the considerable amount of speculation over his divorce from Angelina Jolie to be a distraction.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt last week after two years of marriage and a ten-year relationship. The end of one of Hollywood’s most celebrated couples, who have six children together, led to a furious cycle of news reports, interest and rumours.

Due to the high level of interest in his personal life at this time, the 51-year-old actor has chosen not to attend the screening of the new documentary Voyage of Time, which he narrates, in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

“Terrence [Malick]’s Voyage of Time is an incredibly beautiful and unique experiential IMAX film for children and families chronicling the birth of time,” he said in a statement seen by the Independent. “I’m very grateful to be part of such a fascinating and educational project but I’m currently focused on my family situation and don’t want to distract attention away from this extraordinary film, which I encourage everyone to see.”

Shortly after reports of the divorce of ‘Brangelina’ surfaced, allegations of an incident involving Pitt, his estranged wife and their children on board a private aeroplane also were reported. The FBI confirmed they are “evaluating” the alleged incident. Pitt denies any allegations of any abuse against his children, a source close to the actor has said.

Jolie, who listed the date of separation in her divorce filing as 15 September, is being represented by the Hollywood divorce lawyer Laura Wasser during proceedings.
