Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Winged Fellowship, which provides specialised respite care and holidays for severely physically disabled people in order to allow their carers a break as well, is launching a photography competition on Tuesday 9 November for amateur and student photographers. The competition's closing date is Monday 10 January. Terry O'Neil, Esther Rantzen, Desmond Wilcox, Robin Gibson, Lord Ashley and Andrew Billington, director of Winged Fellowship, will judge the entries. The Fawcett Society, formerly the London National Society For Women's Suffrage and one of the oldest feminist organisations in Britain, is holding a fund-raising reception on Monday 29 November at Sotheby's, Bond Street, London, to mark the 75th anniversary year of women's winning the vote and the first time that they could stand as election candidates. The reception will also launch the 'Fawcett 500' initiative to involve leading women working in industry, commerce, the arts, sport and academia in support of the society's aims. The society campaigns for the full participation of women on equal terms with men in all spheres of life. There will be a series of readings about this campaigning work and an exhibition of 'votes for women' memorabilia from the Fawcett Library which belongs to the society. Tickets, priced pounds 35, are available from:

The Fawcett Society, 40/46 Harleyford Road, Vauxhall, London SE11 5AY, telephone 071-587 1287.
