From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. The news that "Brangelina" has been relegated to the archives of history has travelled as far as Madame Tussauds and the museum has chosen to physically rip apart its wax figure replicas of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

Jolie's lawyer said the actress had filed for divorce from Pitt on Tuesday. The pair officially got together in 2006 after appearing on Mr and Mrs Smith together and then married at Chateau Miraval in the French village of Correns in 2014.

According to TMZ, who broke the news, Jolie is filing for physical custody of their six children but for Pitt to have visitation and joint legal custody. The site, which claims to have viewed a legal filing, said Jolie “was extremely upset” by Pitt's parenting methods.

Madame Tussauds have wasted no time in placing Hollywood's golden couple at what they described as a "respectful distance from each other".

"We reacted quickly to yesterday's news of the separation of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt and their plans to divorce by mirroring the separation in the attraction," a Madame Tussauds spokesperson told Press Association.

"The couple's wax figures, which were launched in 2013, have been split up and are now featured at a respectful distance from each other. Angelina is keeping Nicole Kidman company and Brad Pitt is with his several time co-star Morgan Freeman."

News the couple will be walking away from their decade-long relationship has sent their devoutly committed fans into shock and a number of high-profile figures have come forward to give their view. Clooney has said he is "sorry" and the news is "unfortunate for a family", while Jolie's father said "something very serious" must have happened for her Jolie to decide to file for divorce.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: A timeline of their relationship

The pair have six children together - Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, who are adopted, and biological children Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne who are eight.
