Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Fans who are eager for a photo with Amy Schumer are out of luck. Thanks to one particularly intrusive, meddling “dude in Greenville”, South Carolina, the comedian has announced she’ll no longer be posing for photos - unless fans are particularly “nice”.

The 34-year-old Trainwreck star was so vexed by the man that she posted a photo of him on her Instagram, identifying him for all to see and announcing her new no-selfie dogma.

“This guy in front of his family just ran up next to me scared the shit out of me. Put a camera in my face,” Schumer wrote on Instagram. “I asked him to stop and he said ‘no it's America and we paid for you’ this was in front of his daughter”.

“I was saying stop and no. Great message to your kid,” Schumer added. “Yes legally you are allowed to take a picture of me. But I was asking you to stop and saying no. I will not take pictures with people anymore and it's because of this dude in Greenville".

Nevertheless Schumer followed up her post by explaining that she’ll still be taking photos with her polite fans.

Schumer then wrote another post explaining that while she is always grateful for her fans she is rather less enthralled with those who think behaviour like his is acceptable. “I am grateful to people who like my work and support me but not the ones who think that behaviour is ok”.

Schumer and Williams stun
