The comedian shared a picture of Leslie Brewer on Instagram and claimed he scared her by running up to her in Greenville and putting a camera in her face. She said he then refused to stop taking pictures of her.
Describing the encounter, Schumer said: “I asked him to stop and he said, ‘no it's America and we paid for you’. This was in front of his daughter. I was saying stop and no. Great message to your kid. Yes, legally you are allowed to take a picture of me. But I was asking you to stop and saying no. I will not take pictures with people anymore and it's because of this dude in Greenville."
In a conversation reported by TMZ, Mr Brewer claimed he had stopped recording as Schumer asked. He said he has received racist abuse since Schumer’s post and threats against him and his family.
Speaking to FOX Carolina, he added: “I did it in a non-threatening way. She says I got all up in her face, and it was completely different from the video.”
In the video posted on Mr Brewer’s Instagram account, Schumer is seen asking him to delete the video, which he did not.
Schumer has not responded directly to his claims, but she did share another Instagram post overnight.
“Everything I said is true,” she wrote. “I feel sorry for people who have to live knowing they lied especially in front of their children who know the truth. Have a great day. All love today!”
