From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Amber Rose spoke out about her past as a teenage stripper and responded to disparaging remarks made by her ex, Kanye West, as she led LA’s first SlutWalk to combat sexual injustice.

“I want to forgive Kanye about what he said about me,” she said, according to US Weekly, in a speech given at the event. “I want to let all of that negativity go.”

Rose told the hundreds of women attending the event that she has regularly been slut shamed by men, from her ex (and father of her son) Wiz Khalifa calling her “just a stripper” following their divorce proceedings to Kanye West humiliating her during an interview on The Breakfast Club in February.

West had said that his relationship with Rose impacted his dating life due to her past.

“It’s very hard for a woman to want to be with someone that was with Amber Rose … I had to take 30 showers before I got with Kim [Kardashian].”

Referencing the remark, Rose’s mum held a sign up saying “F**k yo 30 showers”, which was shared on Instagram.

Rose also spoke about Khalifa, with whom she has son, Sebastian.

“He went on to make a song saying that he fell in love with a stripper, but fell out of love quicker,” Rose said.

“As you can imagine, him being the love of my life, regardless of us going through a separation or not, it was extremely hurtful.”

Attendees wore ‘revealing' clothing to the event to illustrate the message that women do not deserve to be judged based on how they dressed, with one woman holding a sign saying “My Clothes Are Not My Consent”.

The walk included a Wall Of No Shame, encouraging women to take photos in front of. The name references a Funny Or Die sketch Rose starred in where she is applauded by people in the street for having a one-night stand.

Additionally, the Amber Rose Foundation has set up a GoFundMe page to “support our foundation and groups and organisations of women who have been subject to slut shaming, a lack of implication of double standards, sexual assault and even rape.”

It has raised more than $55,000 (£36,000) so far.
