From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

US actor John Stamos, known for his roles in Full House, ER and The New Normal, has been arrested for drink driving in California.

Beverly Hills police said they received calls around 7:45pm on Friday night reporting a possible drunken driver. Officers later stopped Stamos, who was the only person in his car.

Police said the 51-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre due to a possible medical condition, where it was determined he had been driving under influence and was arrested.

Stamos was then released to the care of the hospital.

He arrived home on Saturday morning, and tweeted: “Thanks to everyone for their love and support. I’m home and well.”

He later added: “Very appreciative of the BHPD & Cedars for their care.”

Stamos surprised fans earlier this year by announcing on Jimmy Kimmel Live that Full House would be returning in the form of a 13 episode spin-off on Netflix.

He will return as the character Jesse Katsopolis, an exterminator turned rock musician, in the series entitled Fuller House.

The original series first aired in 1987 and ran for eight seasons until 1995.
