From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Piermario Morosini, who died of a suspected heart attack on 14 April at the age of 25, was a former Italian under-21 international footballer who collapsed while playing for Livorno against Pescara in an Italian Serie B game. Morosini collapsed during the 31st minute and received treatment on the pitch before being rushed to hospital. The match was abandoned and the players left the field in tears.

Morosini was born on 5 July 1986 in Bergamo. His mother died when he was 15, and his father two years later, followed shortly after by a disabled brother, leaving him alone with a handicapped elder sister. He began his career at his home-town club Atalanta, and was sold to Udinese in 2005.

Atalanta had loaned him to Bologna to gain experience, and he played at several more clubs on loan, including Reggina, Vicenza and, from January this year, Livorno. His made his debut for Italy's under-17 side in 2001, and in 2006 for the under-21s. He was an unused squad member for the 2009 European Championships.
