Not only could Philip Roth be added to the list but others too like Jose Donoso and Richard Yates and, of course, Saul Bellow. That's only the fiction writers. There were enough poets and novelists to compose two complete soft-ball teams, not to mention fill up a bar. And while Jorge Luis Borges was very much "the thing" at the time, and the International Borges Center had recently moved to the university, I am chagrined to find out that somehow I missed the master in Iowa City.
