Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Lee Richardson, who was killed in a race crash on 13 May at the age of 33, was a British speedway international. Captain of the Lakeside Hammers team, Richardson rode for Great Britain at senior and under-21 level, and featured in several World Cups. He was a Grand Prix rider from 2003-06.
The crash took place in the western Polish city of Wroclaw. Richardson, who had competed in Poland over the past 13 years, was racing for PGE Marma Rzeszow against Betard Sparta Wroclaw when his motorcycle flipped over and Richardson was thrown to the track after crashing into a safety fence. He was married to Emma Garcia and had three sons.
Richardson's mother Julie was a presenter for ScreenSport Television while his father Colin is a former rider. His uncle, Steve Weatherley, was paralysed in a crash with Vic Harding during a meeting at Hackney Wick in 1979; Harding later died.
