Commuters have won a campaign to have buffet car services restored during peak-hour services between Portsmouth and Waterloo.

A spokesman for South West Trains - which stopped the service two weeks ago, claiming it was too expensive to refurbish the kitchens - said yesterday: "We listened to the commuters who used the buffet - and agreed."

However, refrigeration and cooking facilities have been removed and therefore "the beer will only be as cold as it is when it gets on the train".
