New Labour, new media, new message?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The spin doctors allowed a hint of red at the launch of Labour's new media centre yesterday - but the symbolic hue was mainly found around the necks of some of the Shadow Cabinet. The 20,000 square feet, super hi-tech centre, at Millbank Tower in central London, will house Labour's "instant response" rebuttal unit, campaign project units, key seats unit, and election "war room", staffed by a team of more than 100.
Facilities at the centre include state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, satellite and Internet links, flat screen video walls and fibre- optic links to broadcasters "throughout the world". Tony Blair (centre), John Prescott (second right), Robin Cook (left), Tom Sawyer (second left) and Gordon Brown (in praying pose) will be based at the centre during the next election campaign. And yes - amid the technological hardware there was even some policy as well. Blair's risky course, page 5
