It is the second night running on which the soap has been pulled from the schedule as a result of the killings.
The broadcaster said it would confirm its future transmission plans tomorrow.
Last night an edition of Harry Hill's TV Burp was screened and it is thought ITV will do the same tonight.
The programme this week featured a siege plotline which had so far seen Carla Connor (Alison King) and Hayley Cropper (Julie Hesmondhalgh) taken hostage by Tony Gordon, played by Gray O'Brien.
The storyline is known to feature gunfire and last night's episode would have left one character dead.
The postponements will be a headache for TV schedulers who had carefully plotted the climactic scenes to fit around this week's Britain's Got Talent semi-finals and the launch of Corrie in HD.
An ITV spokesman said: "Following the tragic events in Cumbria yesterday, both Wednesday and Thursday's Coronation Street episodes have been postponed."
This week would have seen six episodes broadcast instead of the usual five. On Monday a huge audience of more than 10 million watched a 9pm screening of the soap as the tension built.
The shows had taken four weeks to film using a purpose-built set.
