BBC Radio 3 is to dedicate its entire schedule to the works of Mozart for almost two weeks.
For the first 12 days of January, the station will broadcast recordings, documentaries, live performances and an acclaimed dramatisation of Mozart's life. Contemporary music programmes will not feature in the schedule for the duration.
The Genius Of Mozart season follows previous celebrations of Beethoven and Bach, but this will be the most extensive dedication yet.
Dame Kiri Te Kanawa will present a programme looking at her favourite Mozart arias and Sara Mohr-Pietsch will host Play Mozart For Me nightly.
A drivetime programme will study A History Of Mozart In A Dozen Objects, while director Sir Peter Hall's 1983 production of Amadeus – later turned into an Oscar-winning film – will be aired again. It stars Paul Scofield as Salieri, Simon Callow as Mozart and Felicity Kendal as Constanze.
Online listeners will be able to hear all the Radio 3 Mozart broadcasts in high-definition sound.
