Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Work: Johnny Vaughan, 42, presents the Capital Radio breakfast show with co-host Lisa Snowdon

Life: Married to teenage sweetheart Antonia; two children

Balance: Supports Chelsea; drives a Maserati

Your show has just reclaimed the London top spot. How did you celebrate?

I never celebrate if the ratings are up, because I don’t understand them. But I do like it when we beat Radio 1.

What's Lisa Snowdon like?

She’s fantastic. When I first started, I thought radio was TV’s poor relation, butwhen you’re inside it you realise it is such a craft. Lisa really gets that.

What inspired you to pursue a career in broadcasting?

Pure chance. I went to visit a friend’s production company and I was quite pissed and just having a laugh and a chat, and this guy was doing a pilot for Channel 4 and offered me a job.

You presented 'fighting talk' and there's a new book out. Why should I buy it?

It’s ideal for any football fan. If you’re looking for something for a friend, want to spend about a tenner and can’t find anything in an off-licence or bookshop, they’re not a real friend.

What do you listen to or watch when not working?

Strictly Come Dancing. I get that Saturday- night feeling you only get around a TV. I listen to Capital if I’m driving – it reminds me not to talk so much because people love the music.

Who in the industry would you most like to work with?

I’d love to work with Des Lynam. He’s so funny and yet cynical with it.

And your dream job?

To present the Eurovision song contest when Wogan retires.

Your 'Car of the Year 2008 Show' started last night on Dave. What's it all about?

Top Gear is an outstanding sitcom but it’s nice to have a show about cars, with real people. We’re getting cab drivers to review Rolls-Royces.

What would your desert island media be?

The Sopranos, the Sunday edition of The New York Times, and the BBC World Service – when I was a nipper I went to jail for about two and a half years, and the radio became a background friend.
