Heather Mills has become the seventh contestant to exit Channel 4’s The Jump after injuring her knee and thumb.

Ms Mills, who recently joined the show along with Tom Parker, a member of The Wanted, crashed during the weekend and was forced to pull out.

Former Girls Aloud member Sarah Harding has also left the show because of a ligament injury. The pair were brought in to make up the numbers because so many contestants had been forced to drop of the competition due to injury.

This week’s casualties will join gymnast Beth Tweedle, Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington, actress Tina Hobley, Olympic sprinter Linford Christie and Made in Chelsea’s Mark-Francis Vandelli in the relative warmth and safety of regular celebrity life.

Mills tweeted a video of her doomed jump, as well as a post saying she was “gutted”, but also a “bit relieved”.

Nine contestants have now been injured, of which seven have been forced to pull out of the show.

Channel 4 launched an urgent safety review into the show after seven of the 12 original contestants suffered injuries in the first two episodes of the show.

A statement from the channel read: "All winter sports carry some element of risk but, in light of the number of injuries this year, Channel 4 has asked the producers to review safety procedures again."

Earlier this month Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards suggested the producers were not to blame.

In an article in the Daily Mail, he wrote: “Worked on the first two series of this show, and I know time is tight. There might be only a two-hour window to practise on a ramp.

“Those competitors should be up and down the steps relentlessly — jump and go back, jump and go back.

“Instead, too many will have a couple of goes before going off for a coffee and forgetting to return because they’re feeling tired.”
