Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Andrew Mullins, managing director of the Independent and the Evening Standard, is to join Informa, the FTSE 250 publisher of insurance bible Lloyd’s List, it was announced today.
Informa chief executive Stephen Carter has recruited Mullins and another leading media boss, Patrick Martell, chief executive of listed printing and marketing firm St Ives.
Carter, who took charge in January, is reorganising Informa into four divisions: academic publishing, business intelligence, events, and a training-and-conferences arm, called knowledge and networking.
Mullins will head knowledge and networking and Martell will run business intelligence. Existing Informa staff will oversee the other divisons.
Carter, a former business minister under Gordon Brown and head of media regulator Ofcom, said the “measured change” will simplify the business as Informa shifts from print to digital and live events.
Mullins has run the Evening Standard since 2007 and expanded his role by overseeing The Independent and launching i newspaper and TV channel London Live.
Investec bank welcomed Carter’s “sensible” changes as “evidence of a more proactive plan”. Shares rose 1.6p to 472.3p.
