My Week: Stephen K Amos
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Last week I watched...
You can't escape the nightmare that is Britain's Got Talent. It has been on every day and they even have an after-show on ITV2. It's too much. It all seems to be people laughing at the oddballs that they get on – a dancing child always works. The highlight was watching Piers Morgan who has risen from the ashes. Everyone seems to have forgotten that only a few years ago he was sacked as the editor of a national newspaper and now he's seen as judge and jury. I work mainly nights because of my comedy lifestyle and always watch daytime TV. I am absolutely hooked on Judge Judy, which is on every weekday on ITV2. Judge Judith Sheindlin is a typical American, Jewish mother type, but she's a real judge and all the cases are real and legally binding. She just talks an awful lot of common sense; she reminds me of my mum. It's addictive in a way that Britain's Got Talent isn't. The one I saw yesterday was a woman who had her hair done in a salon and claimed that it was awful. She had written a cheque and cancelled it. It was hilarious watching how Judge Judy dealt with it.
Last week I listened to...
My own show, The Odd Half Hour, on Radio 4. We only made it a couple of weeks ago so I wanted to see what the final edit would be like. I normally listen to Heart FM in the daytime, because I love the fact they play music from an era gone by and don't seem to care. TalkSPORT is always quite interesting because you can be annoyed by the lunatics ringing up and talking nonsense. I took a taxi from the BBC last week and the taxi driver started a conversation with me by saying: "Listen out for me on TalkSPORT. I'm Crazy Geoff".
Last week I read...
The front pages have been dominated by the tragic death of this young lad Robert Knox, the Harry Potter actor. The Sun had pictures of every single person killed by a knife attack this year on its front page. That's quite a shocking image. I think things are quite bad but I also think it's been blown out of all proportion. Having sat on the panel on The Wright Stuff before, I tend to agree with Matthew Wright, that this hysteria is demonising all youths.

I look at comedy-related stuff on websites, such as Chortle.co.uk, but am very anti-technology at the moment because I believe it's moving us away from human contact.
Stephen K Amos is in Happy Mondays: The Odd Half Hour, Mondays at 11pm on BBC Radio 4.
