Computer Associates has appointed Sean Larner (right) as its new UK managing director. Larner was formerly general manager of national accounts. He succeeds Lars Ahlberg, who head CA's European global accounts strategy in addition to running CA's Scandinavian organisation.

Professor Peter Gibbins is leaving the University of Exeter to take up the position of executive director of the Virtual Centre of Excellence in Digital Broadcasting and Multimedia Technology Ltd. The Virtual Centre of Excellence (alias "the Digital VCE") is sponsored by the DTI, and is a research consortium of the leading companies, organisations, and universities in the fields of broadcasting and multimedia.

Colin Robertson (right) has been appointed managing directorof Racal Instruments. He was previously managing director of Solartron Transducers Ltd.

Jim Horsburgh, European managing director of Visio International, has been appointed as chairman of Software Publishers Association (Europe). SPA Europe promotes and provides information and services to the PC software industry in Europe, representing around 200 European software developers, publishers, distributors, hardware manufacturers and other industry-related firms from more than 20 different countries.

Peter Searle (right) has joined NDlg, the local government division of Norsk Data, as a business consultant. He joins from MKA Software.

Dennis Kenny has been appointed vice-president of Wang's international multi-vendor service business. He joins Wang from Unisys, where he was director of Europe and Africa theatre operations for the global customer services organisation.

Griselda Billington has joined EMAP Internet Sales as account manager. Billington was previously an ad sales executive at Wired and Hotwired.
