More sales success for The Independent
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The latest newspaper circulation figures, published yesterday, reveal continuing sales success for The Independent and the growing popularity of our weekday compact edition.
The average daily sales for December were 237,816, which is an increase of 8.7 per cent on the same period last year and is the paper's best year-on-year performance since July 1995.
The Independent was the only quality newspaper to register year-on-year growth; The Times was down 6.2 per cent on the previous year, the Guardian was down 4.9 per cent and the Daily Telegraph 3.4 per cent.
Average daily sales of the compact edition rose by more than 11,000 to 58,643, compared with 47,568 in November. And this week, we extended the distribution of the compact Independent to the Central, Anglia, Yorkshire and Tyne-Tees television areas.
Ivan Fallon, the chief executive of Independent News and Media (UK), said: "These figures show more and more people are recognising the editorial strengths of The Independent. We would like to thank our readers, new and old, for their support."
