And he asked his fellow speaker Peter Preston, editor of the Guardian, how he could advocate self-regulation for the press while arguing in leading articles for independent regulation of the police. Preston, in turn, claimed that he could not think of a single recent factual inaccuracy in the press that had not been followed by a prominent correction.
