'Independent' titles win coveted media awards
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Independent on Sunday scooped two prestigious awards at the British Environment and Media awards in London last night.
The newspaper won Newspaper of the Year award and was commended for its commitment to environmental issues, its investigative approach and increasing interest in environmental issues among young audiences.
Geoffrey Lean, the newspaper's environment editor, was named environmental journalist of the year. Judges said he had been vindicated for his opinions on foot-and-mouth. He was also commended for the newspaper's asthma campaign, articles on whales, and pollution in Antarctica.
Mr Lean was commended for "cleverly linking issues on the environment to issues of topical concern", they said.
At the Media Week awards last night, The Independent won Tactical Sales Pitch of the Year for a 48-hours magazine produced for teletext holidays, which was awarded to Claudette Lewis of the newspaper's sales team. The Independent was the only national newspaper to pick up an award at the ceremony.
