From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Twitter's most talked about topics chart features the popular music-related "#NowPlaying" meme in first place again on April 6.

In second place is "#WhatsThePoint" with social networkers discussing why they should bother doing something.

What's the point "of making your bed if you are going to mess it up later at night," "in praying if you don't believe that God can answer," "of buying a PC when you can buy a Mac" or "of having a cell phone when you don't answer your calls or text?" ask microbloggers.

The "IwishIcould" hashtag has entered into the charts at number four. Easter is trending at number five as people share stories about what they did during the Easter holidays and complaining that they don't want to go back to work after their extended weekend.

Microbloggers are using their 140 characters to talk about what people think about after they pass away using the term "#AfterlifeThoughts." It has landed in Twitter's trending topic charts this week at number five.

The name of Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber continues to be a hotly talked about subject on Twitter, moving up one place to number six. "#OhJustLikeMe" follows one place behind, while the hashtag "causeitwascheap" is a new entry in the charts at number eight.
