From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In third position is the "scaryplaces" hashtag. Microbloggers are using the term to describe the places that scare them.
Some "scary places" Twitter users are mentioning are: "on the receiving end of a phone conversation with [American comedian] Chris Tucker," "the small world ride at Disneyland" and "the USA with Sarah Palin as President."
The name of Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber has risen by five places on Twitter's chart of most talked about topics. A video of an emotional three-year-old girl crying over Justin Bieber has been uploaded onto YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTCm8tdHkfI) and Twitter users are helping it spread.
Apple's latest touch screen device, the iPad, has been a nearly constant fixture in Twitter's trending topics since Steve Jobs unveiled the product in January.
One of the main reasons for this is the ongoing debate over why Apple refuses to allow its portable touchscreen devices to use Adobe's Flash technology. The recently published article, "Adobe Flash developer on why the iPad can't use Flash,"on tech site RoughlyDrafted Magazine has been generating positive comments via the social network on February 23.
