Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The venue: The Thomas Cubitt, in Elizabeth Street, Belgravia. It was recommended to me by a diary editor, who told me that everyone was going there. It's much better than a typical gastro-pub.

The company: I had William Chase down, who founded Tyrrells Crisps and, more recently, Chase Vodka, which has just won the best vodka at the San Francisco World Spirit Awards. His son also came and we were joined by Steve Butcher, who is editor of MSN's food and drink website.

The conversation: We spoke about how small, boutique producers of spirits are doing very well in supermarkets at the moment, and about MSN's success with their food and drink offering, and how everyone could work together.

On the menu: I had the spiced rack of lamb with smoked potato and roasted garlic and rosemary jus, and we had a bottle of white wine, a Gavi.

Come here often? I like the Wolseley, but I tend to go to a lot of Richard Caring's restaurants. It's good if you're trying to impress a journalist to take them somewhere that is known to be "happening".
