Your support helps us to tell the story

My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.

Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.

Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

All I do is light the blue touch-paper, and … I didn’t imagine many of you would hold back with your opinions on discipline in football and rugby! Ah well, now that the football season has ended, bar the odd international, there are other distractions, at least for a few weeks!

We have such a diverse range of readers, keeping all of you happy all of the time has become a near impossible task – but we do try to have a bit of fun in and around the serious issues in the paper. I’m in no danger of letting things slip – you’re always very up-front about telling me what you want more or less of. More women, less sport, more women in sport, staples, no staples, Scottish news, Northern news, no London news, more tweets, more letters, bigger cricket scoreboards, no cricket, more politics, no celebrity gossip…

You may notice that not all of these go hand-in-hand, but we try to keep as many of you as happy as possible. I hesitate to reopen the staples debate, but that’s the only area we have no control over – they should be there, but sometimes fall out. Whatever your view, I hope we tick your box once in a while…

Seamlessly linking (ahem) to ticking boxes of another kind, students from around the country have been swotting up in preparation for tonight’s i Quiz final, at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham – thanks also to Latitude and National Express. I will be there as quizmaster, doing my very best Jeremy Paxman impression. We will be reproducing the questions soon so you can pit your wits against the (allegedly) brightest students in the country, so sharpen your pencils and swot-up yourselves by reading the paper from cover to cover – even the bits you don’t like.
