A man has been charged with the murder of a five-month-old baby girl who died after being taken to hospital.

Tomas Driukas will appear before magistrates in Birmingham tomorrow charged with killing the baby, who has not yet been named by police.

The 25-year-old electrician, of Crantock Road, Perry Barr, Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of murder following the baby's death on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to reports that the child was experiencing breathing difficulties at an address in Crantock Road shortly before 1am on Wednesday.

A 22-year-old woman who was also arrested in connection with the baby's death has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

A post-mortem examination revealed several injuries to the little girl and further tests are being carried out to establish the cause of her death.
