Your support makes all the difference.Glam rock star Gary Glitter has been interviewed by police over alleged child pornography offences. But the Seventies singer denied last night that he was guilty of any crime.
It has emerged that 53-year-old Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was arrested at a computer shop in Bristol on Tuesday after staff allegedly discovered indecent photos in equipment which he had brought in for repair.
He was taken from the store, PC World, to nearby Staple Hill police station for questioning. Officers later searched his flat in London, and another property in Wedmore, Somerset, and seized a number of videos and indecent photos of children, according to police sources.
Glitter, who has two children, has been released on police bail while further inquiries are made. He is due to be interviewed by detectives again in the New Year. An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said only that "a 53-year-old man was arrested and a computer was seized. I can also confirm that we have searched an address in London and videos and numerous indecent photographs of children have been seized".
In a statement, Glitter's solicitor said: " My client categorically denies committing any offence. Neither my client nor I shall be making any further statement at the present time".
The singer is due to go on a tour starting in Cardiff on 9 December and finishing in Manchester on 21 December. A spokesman for Glitter said the tour will go ahead, adding: " It isn't a sell out yet [but] tickets are selling very well". And a spokeswoman for London Arena, where he is due to play on 13 December, stated: "As far as we are concerned it is business as normal. I have spoken to the promoter and nothing has changed."
