From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A male teacher decided to leave his job after his pupils discovered he was moonlighting as a stripper, it emerged today.

Benedict Garrett left his post at Beal High School in Ilford, east London, after children and staff found out that he was stripping in clubs and working as a "naked butler".

Mr Garrett, who uses the pseudonym Johnny Anglais, taught A-Level politics at the school for three years.

On his website, Mr Garrett offers services including lap dancing, stripping and serving food in the nude at private dinner parties.

The 30-year-old from Hackney, east London, describes himself as six feet two inches tall with green eyes and dark brown hair. He lists his interests as working out, playing piano and singing. He also owns a cocker spaniel and speaks five languages.

Mr Garrett, who boasts a 42 inch chest, told the Evening Standard his second job did not affect his work at the school.

"I had told a couple of colleagues, but some of the students must have discovered the website and word got out," he told the newspaper.

"It never affected my work with the kids but I realise it makes my position at the school very difficult.

"I went on voluntary suspension and I won't be returning to the school. I have enjoyed teaching but that phase of my life is over now.

"I am proud to be a male stripper. The ladies are particularly fond of my James Bond outfit."

A school spokeswoman added: "A member of staff who had already resigned from the school has been suspended pending an investigation."
