The first two students have been accepted at Professor A C Grayling's £18,000-a-year private university for the humanities in London.
One, from Hackney, east London, will be granted a free scholarship. The second, from a state grammar in Cheltenham, will receive a 60 per cent fees reduction at the New College of the Humanities. Both will study English with humanities in 2012.
