Going Higher: 'I work nights to fund my social life'
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

"I WAS never really in to clubbing before I came to London, but now I think that was because of the poor standard of the clubs in my home area.
"When I go clubbing it is usually to drum and bass nights, but sometimes I like to enjoy the sheer diversity of the London club scene.
"London clubs cater for every musical persuasion and I think Bar Rhumba on Shaftesbury Avenue is proof of this. Musically it has something for everyone - house, drum and bass, jazz, indie - a real eclectic mix. I tend to pop in on Monday nights because the atmosphere is really chilled out and friendly, and it sets me up for the rest of my week.
"On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays I work in a pub in Camden Town, which gives me enough money to finance my social life.
"Most people can't believe I work Saturday nights, but in my opinion they aren't the best clubbing nights anyway.
"On Thursdays I tend to go back to Bar Rhumba for "movement", a night of atmospheric drum and bass with jazzy undertones. Either there, or I'll go to Bagley's in Kings Cross for something more happy. Fridays I stick to The End, because I love the club.
"Some Saturdays I'm able to catch something at the Camden Palace. I used to go to Metalheadz at the Blue Note in Hoxton Square on a Sunday, but that's moved to The Complex in Islington, and I haven't tried it out yet."
