From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

James Scowcroft was kept in hospital overnight after being flattened in a clash of heads with his Ipswich team-mate Matt Holland at Carrow Road last night. The England Under-21 striker fell heavily after an aerial collision with Holland in the 16th minute of the First Division match, which Norwich won courtesy of an own goal by Jason Cundy.
Scowcroft received lengthy treatment on the pitch before being stretchered off after nearly six minutes wearing a neck brace. Ipswich's manager, George Burley, said: "At first he couldn't move his right arm and leg and lost all feeling down that side of his body for a time," he said. "It was obviously a very worrying moment but I have spoken to the hospital and apparently the feeling is gradually coming back."
Norwich went ahead after eight minutes when a long ball by Craig Fleming caught out Cundy, and Darren Eadie nipped in to score. It was 2-0 after an hour when Tony Mowbray headed an Eadie free-kick against Cundy's shins and the ball ran into the net. Mark Stein pulled a goal back for Ipswich in the 73rd minute, heading in David Kerslake's cross.
