Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The article "Blatter embroiled in new controversy – this time over tickets" on 20 November 2011 stated that, despite MATCH's performance in the 2010 Fifa World Cup, it did not have to tender for the hospitality rights it was granted by Fifa for the 2014 Fifa World Cup. In fact, MATCH was awarded hospitality rights for the 2014 Fifa World Cup after a formal bid process in 2007.

MATCH has advised us that: it made a long-term investment into the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups; its performance must be measured over both events; and, from its perspective, its operational performance in 2010 was a success. We would also like to make clear that neither Jaime nor Enrique Byrom received any tickets personally from Fifa for the 2010 or 2014 World Cups and that MATCH, not Jaime or Enrique Byrom, was granted the rights from Fifa to distribute tickets. We would like to apologise to MATCH and Jaime and Enrique Byrom for any inaccuracies.
