Your support makes all the difference.THE London Stock Exchange is to appoint Fields Wicker-Miurin, an American management consultant, as director of finance and strategy as the institution strives to develop a new role in the City.
Michael Lawrence, the newly arrived chief executive, has been building his own management team to try to revive the exchange's standing after its failure to set up the Taurus automated share settlement system.
Mrs Wicker-Miurin, 36, will succeed Jane Barker, who left in February to live in the US, as finance director. Mrs Wicker- Miurin is the first person to combine finance with the role of strategic director. She is currently a partner and vice-president with Mercer Management Consulting, leading the firm's European financial services practice.
Between 1982 and 1989 she worked for Philadelphia National Bank in Luxembourg and London, and helped to develop the bank's operations in the Mediterranean markets.
Mr Lawrence said: 'I was very keen to have a strategist on the board, and I am delighted to have found the right person for this role. Fields Wicker-Miurin brings with her an international perspective which will be invaluable in enhancing further the exchange's strong global position.'
Mrs Wicker-Miurin will have three tasks: to work with the finance team to strengthen systems such as cost control; to build a strategy team capable of anticipating changes in the markets and developing responses to them; and to help with decision-making.
'We will be doing all we can to maintain London's leading position in the global markets. It's very exciting,' she said.
