Your support makes all the difference.A POLICE commander died of a heart condition yesterday, two weeks after being injured trying to make an arrest.
Commander Hugh Moore, 64, third in command of the City of London Police, died at the private Bupa Hospital in Bushey, Hertfordshire. He had been admitted to hospital 11 days after an incident on 19 November in which he tried to arrest an alleged bogus charity worker collecting for the Great Ormond Street children's hospital. He was allegedly assaulted, suffering abrasions to his face, hands and legs.
Owen Kelly, City of London police commissioner, said Mr Moore, who had served with the force for 38 years, was 'one of the most professionally accomplished police officers I have ever known'. He added: 'In crime investigations he had an outstanding ability. Similarly, in operational planning for anti-terrorist measures he was unsurpassed.
'A modest man, he would be the last to mention his own achievements. His death is a great loss to this force and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.'
A man was arrested in connection with the incident, and released on police bail.
A police spokesman said: 'Any possible link between the assault and the cause of death is being investigated.'
