JOSEPH Perella, the chairman of Wasserstein Perella, one of Wall Street's most aggressive investment banking groups, is to retire on 1 September. 'I feel the need to seek new challenges,' he said. Wasserstein is best known in the UK for its disastrous backing of the pounds 2.6bn buyout of the Gateway supermarkets group.
