Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Young's, the London-focused brewery and pub company, is poised for a bumper summer, and with good reason. It has 14 pubs along the banks of the river Thames, places that are likely to be hugely popular during the Queen's Jubilee and the Olympics.

"We are rather hopeful that it will be a nice day for the Jubilee procession up the Thames," said the chief executive, Stephen Goodyear. "We are expecting big crowds."

Mr Goodyear said that it is less clear how good the Olympics will be for trade, because it is not certain just how many people will be in London and travelling easily.

Results for the year to April are solid to say the least. Sales soared 25 per cent to £178.9m and profit jumped 17 per cent to £21.3m. To Mr Goodyear that is vindication for the strategy of aiming at the premium end of the market in southern parts of the country. Young's has 200 pubs inside the M25.

The dividend, increased every year for the past 15, is up another 5 per cent to 13.93p.
