Mayflower to buy Walter Alexander

Engineering group Mayflower is paying pounds 26.4m for Walter Alexander, a manufacturer of bus bodies for UK and Far East buyers. The deal is being financed by a share placing that will raise pounds 12m. The group also announced a sharp increase in half-year profits yesterday, up from pounds 3.5m to pounds 6.3m.
