Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It is buying three European chilled-food businesses from Beledia of the Netherlands for pounds 50m. The purchase continues its policy - outlined at the time of the rights, which was less than 50 per cent subscribed - to make 'add-on' and 'fill-in' acquisitions.
Net assets of the companies are pounds 29m and the most recent combined operating profits were pounds 4.4m.
After the deal Hillsdown will have spent about pounds 200m on acquisitions and restructuring since the cash call, but it has also sold some businesses.
Gearing is thought to be about 30 per cent.
The three companies - Nadler of Germany, Johma of the Netherlands and Belgium and K Salat of Denmark - specialise in prepared salads, fish and sauces. Hillsdown already owns the UK chilled-food operations Pinneys, Smedley's and Telfers.
The shares rose 2p to 106p.
