Preliminary figures showed that average weekly family spending in the UK was pounds 283.60 in the financial year 1994/95. The biggest chunk was an average of pounds 50.40 on food and non- alcoholic drinks, followed by pounds 46.40 on housing. Leisure came third, accounting for pounds 45.10 a week on average.
