THE NEW regulatory body for the energy sector is to be called Ofgem - for Office of Gas and Electricity Markets - the Energy Minister, John Battle, said yesterday. The announcement came as the first head of Ofgem, Callum McCarthy, ordered an investigation into whether National Power's plans to shut three power stations would drive up prices. Mott MacDonald, the consulting engineering firm, has been appointed as independent assessor to examine the closure of the Blyth A and Blyth B coal-fired stations and the Fawley oil-fired station.
