From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

COURTAULDS, the speciality materials group, has acquired a small aerospace and defence coating business from ICI, the chemicals giant, for an undisclosed sum, writes Neil Thapar.

The business, which had total sales of pounds 5.5m last year, strengthens Courtaulds Aerospace, which supplies adhesives and coatings to customers worldwide.

The deal does not involve the purchase of any fixed assets and is less than 1 per cent of ICI's assets.

The purchase strengthens Courtaulds' position in Germany and brings in several new customers from the European defence and aerospace coatings industry.

Courtaulds' worldwide sales in aerospace materials totalled pounds 130m last year. The business has operations is North America, the Far East and Europe.

ICI is selling the business to concentrate on core activities.

Gordon Campbell, Courtaulds Aerospace director, said: 'This move continues our development of a strong international aerospace business. Bringing Courtaulds and ICI's aerospace and defence coatings business together will give us a presence in the EC's three largest aerospace coatings markets and enable us to provide a full service to the aerospace industry in Europe.'

The deal is subject to regulatory approvals.
