Border Television made pounds 519,000 (pounds 509,000) pre-tax profit for the six months to 31 October, hampered by a pounds 385,000 exceptional charge for the transfer of transmission facilities to Granada. Interim dividend is 1.3p (1.1p).

Abbey Panels Investments, a motor, aerospace and defence components maker, deepened pre-tax losses to pounds 1.8m (pounds 234,000) for the year to 30 September on a 32 per cent decline in turnover to pounds 12.3m.

Batleys, the cash and carry wholesaler, fell to pounds 3.1m (pounds 4.2m) pre-tax profit in the six months to 31 October. Sales were pounds 239.1m (pounds 222.3m).
