Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Aerospace Engineering halved its dividend to 0.25p for the six months to last October despite a jump in pre-tax profits from pounds 27,000 to pounds 109,000. Even the reduced payout was uncovered by earnings of 0.19p per share, however, and John Davis, chairman, warned that 'a significant recovery is unlikely to materialise' in the current financial year.

The company sold its loss-making aero-engine testing subsidiary, John Curran, to its management last July. Eliminating Curran's pounds 78,000 loss in the previous year's interim figures accounted for nearly all the improvement in profits. The remaining core businesses, aerospace components and printed circuits for the electronics industry, recorded virtually unchanged results.

British Thornton Holdings reported pre-tax profits of pounds 301,000 ( pounds 20,000) for the six months to 31 October. Earnings per share were 0.2p (0.09p)

Peel Holdings lifted pre-tax profits to pounds 1.77m ( pounds 1.64m) in the half- year to 30 September. The loss per share increased to 0.75p (0.39p). The interim dividend is held at 1p.

Real Time Control made a profit before tax of pounds 258,000 ( pounds 507,000) in the half to 30 September. Earnings per share were 2.5p (4.9p).

Soundtracs saw pre-tax profits fall to pounds 350,385 ( pounds 545,699) in the year to 6 November. Earnings per share were 2.45p (3.79p). A final dividend of 1.35p makes 2.2p (same).

Unigate has paid pounds 17m for the Co- operative Wholesale Society's doorstep milk businesses in London, the South-east and Cornwall. Some redundancies are expected. The deal, which strengthens Unigate's southern dominance, is conditional on there being no reference to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.

Inchcape has, through its wholly- owned insurance broking subsidiary Bain Clarkson, increased its stake in the Italian insurance broker Revasa to 49 per cent.

Johnson Group Cleaners has acquired Imperial and Queen Laundries, the workwear rental business, for pounds 2.9m.
