Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.CYBERCARD, the internet printer of bespoke greeting cards, has received a Christmas present in the form of pounds 300,000 in cash and services to accelerate its business, writes Melanie Bien. Business angels Jonathan Armour and Eric Jones predict that their management buy-in will propel Cybercard's turnover to pounds 60m and its profits to pounds 10m within five years.
"I see Cybercard as an outstanding opportunity," says Mr Armour. "It combines two lots of technical change - the internet and digital printing - in order to provide a unique product and service. The world greeting cards market will be worth pounds 15bn by 2005, so a mere 0.4 per cent market share would give Cybercard sales of pounds 60m."
It is a welcome end to a year in which Cybercard won the Cambridgeshire Small Business award for Best New Business Concept. The cyber greeting card is a godsend for those who only remember birthdays and anniversaries after they have missed the last post. It is tailored to individual needs and emailed straight to the desktop of a loved one.
