From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Mark Booth, the new chief executive of BSkyB, is to overhaul the way in which the satellite broadcaster markets itself, following the unexpected departure yesterday of Jim Hytner, marketing director.

Mr Hytner, who was appointed in 1994 by David Chance, the outgoing deputy managing director, is to become the marketing director of Channel 5, replacing David Brook.

BSkyB insiders say Mr Booth will now refashion the company's marketing, which has been responsible for much of the satellite broadcaster's success.

It is thought Mr Booth will focus less on sports as a driver for customers.

A spokesman for BSkyB confirmed Mr Hytner was leaving.

The spokesman added: "Mark has a clear strategy to accelerate the subscriber growth of the business.

"Sky's marketing will be key to that strategy."

Mr Hytner's exit comes just weeks after the resignation of Richard Brooke, who was the finance director.

Sam Chisholm, chief executive and managing director, has stepped down and Mr Chance is to leave in the new year, although he will retain a consultancy role with the company.
