SCOTTISH RADIO, the radio group, yesterday took its first step into outdoor advertising with the acquisition of Trainer Limited, the Scottish billboard operator, for pounds 27.5m.

Trainer operates 800 larger-sized billboards in Scotland, and currently controls 300 smaller six-sheet poster sites.

In the year to last December, Trainer generated a pre-tax profit of pounds 1.4m.
